This lifestyle center was completed in 2004 and demonstrated that an open air shopping center designed with surface parking can still be pedestrian-oriented. The architectural theme was derived from Ventura’s unique downtown and civic center architecture. The objective was to create an eclectic coastal community design that appears to have been built over several time periods (as opposed to a singular suburban shopping center theme). The project allows for a variety of specialty and soft goods tenants to have personal identity within a shopping environment that provides pedestrian amenities. The typical parking lot design was divided into sub-areas defined by large landscape planters, plazas (including a corner fountain feature), and distinct pedestrian paths.
